Night from the Rialto

The Piazza di San Marco may be more famous, but the Ponte di Rialto (Rialto Bridge) is the true heart of Venice, Italy. The current structure was built in just three years, between 1588 and 1591, as a permanent replacement for the boat bridge and three wooden bridges that had spanned the Grand Canal at various times since the 12th Century. This view from the bridge shows the activity on the Grand Canal as seen looking Southwest after sunset.

Burano

Near Venice Italy, the island of Burano shares the lack of roads and narrow waterways that have made Venice famous. Known for high quality lace products, Burano also is famous for the bright colors used to decorate everything including all the buildings. This view of a canal in Burano shows off the fabulous bright colors used on all the boats and buildings in this picturesque locale.
