Covered Bridges #1305 - Country Bridge

Covered Bridges dot the countryside in most New England area states including New York State. Some now carry car traffic although most have been converted to historic sites for pedestrian traffic only. Once constructed in this covered fashion to keep horses from spooking when crossing high above rushing water, they have become a symbol of our horse drawn carriage heritage. Can you hear the horses?

Covered Bridges #1222 - Shandaken Covered Bridge

The Pine Hill Covered Bridge serves as the entrance to the Belleayre Mountain Day Use Area at the base of Belleayre Mountain. It is east of Pine Hills in the Town of Shandaken, Ulster County New York. The bridge carries Lake Street over Birch Creek.

Covered Bridges #1454 - Mt. Orne Bridge Hay Bale

The Mount Orne Covered Bridge connects Lancaster, New Hampshire with Lunenburg, Vermont. Originally built in 1911 and rehabilitated in 1983, this structure spanning the Connecticut River is still in use today. Reminiscent of times long passed, this truck carries a bale of hay across the river.

Covered Bridges #1401 - Corbin Bridge

Spanning the Sugar River in Newport New Hampshire, the Corbin Covered Bridge was first built in 1845. The state considered closing the bridge in May 1979, but the town reduced the posted weight limit from six to three tons in order to retain this landmark. In 1993, the original bridge was destroyed by fire and this image is of the new bridge built on the same site.
